Calcium Alloys In Industry

Calcium Alloys are utilised in a variety of industrial applications in steel due to their unique properties. A common use of this applicant is in the production of steel and aluminium alloys, where calcium helps refine these metals, enhancing their durability and strength.

Our Calcium Silicide functions as an effective deoxidising and desulphurising agent in steelmaking, and can also be a source of calcium in the production of special alloys. Our Calcium Silicon Manganese is utilised in steelmaking processes to improve the quality and performance of steel.

Why is Calcium added to steel as an alloy rather than as pure Calcium?

Calcium Alloys such as Calcium Silicide. Calcium Silicon Manganese and Calcium Silicon Barium are in stabilised forms and a safer and more controlled addition to a steel melt rather than adding pure calcium which is more difficult to add to liquid steel due to its low density and high reactivity.

The most common and effective way of adding Calcium Silicide to liquid steel is in the form of cored wire.

What challenges are associated with the use of Calcium Alloys in steelmaking?

The use of Calcium Alloys in steelmaking may present several challenges. One challenge is controlling the reaction kinetics and making sure the correct alloy dissolution is in the molten bath. Due to Calcium Alloys having high vapour pressure in steelmaking temperatures, it can lead to the loss of calcium through evaporation if not effectively managed.
